I just finished the first of five paintings that will be live auctioned at the heart for art event. The painting is 3’x4’ and is constructed out of old beat-up plywood. I took a different direction that I haven’t used in a long time and that is collage. I found photos of flowers from Cambodia, printed them out and cut and pasted them on the canvas.
Here is what this painting means to me. As a reminder, I am taking a team to paint murals with girls that were rescued from human trafficking. Some of the girls we could be painting with are still in forced prostitution. Looking at this little girl in the painting I see hope for a life that has been tragically abused. The white wash over her appearance gives me a sense off her purity that has been tainted by the black washes painted over the white. She had purity but it has been stolen. The flowers that are from Cambodia give me a feel that they are a symbol of renewed purity for this little girl. I love the pink colors that are splashed behind her. The pink makes me think of her chillness as an innocent little girl that she was created to be.
Please feel free to let me know what you interpret.
